It would only be "normal behavior" if your DNS is messed up. That would be
the first place that I checked.

Subject: IMC and DNS for outbound mail

Hello

I am using Windows NT Server 4.0/sp6a, with Exchange Server 5.5/sp4. I
have
noticed on several installations (most of them with dial-up connection
to
the ISP) that if I configure outbound mail to use DNS, it fails to
resolve
the host name of the destination domains. In this case, I am forced to
forward all mail to the ISP's SMTP server. Is this a normal behavior? Is
there a workaround to avoid it?

Best Regards
Nizar El-Assaad
