Sorry, I see your problem more clearly now that I've read your problem. What do you have for an address space and cost on all the IMSes?

I've read Q196927, but surely I don't have to modify all the SMTP addresses to siteN.domainA.com, configure the IMS connector, and then change the addresses back.
