Based on his English usage and the way he phrased his question I'd wager that Mark is not in America. It's really difficult to make salary comparisons across borders. Hell, it's hard to do it within borders - the cost of living in San Francisco is demonstrably higher than, say, Tyler, Texas. It would be difficult to compare salaries between those two locations.
