For peace of mind I used to take a weekly offline backup on Saturday nights, automating the stop/start of services with a batch file. After many successful trial restores with online backups, I stopped doing it.
Restarting the services once in a while sounds like a good idea though - I might schedule a job to do just that, say once a fortnight in the early hours of Sunday morning.
