in IE 5.5, Tools menu select Internet Options..
go to the Advanced Tab
in the list you will see "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" check that
box.
it will be the closest you can get to using one IE window.

problem with IE in 5.5 as well as 6, when I click on a link and it has
to open in a new window, it doesn't react in that window...
