Using 2000 adv server ms vpn...looks like they do not want me to install on
exchange server. It would then be a one nic unit and would transmit clear
text only!!

Ahhh that's what you are asking about OS for... -

what VPN software do you have?

Anyway, I think you could install it directly on the Exchange server. This
way you have a secure connection all the way to the server.

To think of it, you may even want to try IPSec on the Exchange server. Of
course the client PCs must be aware of IPSec to take advantage of that (i.e.
Windows 2000)

Can I install the vpn on the exchange server or should I use another 2000
server like my 2000 dhcp server?

Windows NT 3.51 should be fine too.

Put the server's IP address and NetBIOS name in the HOSTS file on your
remote PC.

Make sure ports 135 as well as 1024 and higher are open.

You may want to force the Exchange server to only use 1024, 1025, 1026 this
way you can monitor just three (well, four) RPC ports instead of thousands.
