If I remember correctly, you can't do a "starts with" type search if the
syntax of the attribute you're searching is "Distinguished Name". The reason
for this is that the attributes value is not represented as simply the text
of the Distinguished Name, but rather a link to the actual object in the
directory. The ldap attribute in question here is homeMDB, and it has the
syntax of Distinguished Name, hence the problem.

You can look at all of the attribute syntaxes by registering schmmgmt.dll
and adding "Active Directory Schema" to an MMC

"Start with" doesn't work in this situation, but "is exactly" with the full
path does:

CN=Mailbox Store (SERVERNAME),CN=First Storage
Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=SERVERNAME,CN=Servers,CN=First Administrative
Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=ORGNAME,CN=Microsoft
Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=DOMAIN,DC=com

You could also create a temporary address list in ESM, preview the list and
run the move mailbox task through that gui instead.

Subject: Using ADUC: How to list all users in a specific database?

I am attempting to generate a search result in Active Directory Users and
Computers that only lists users in a specific database - I need to move all
those specific users to new databases and I really don't want to write down
all the names and move them manually. So, here is what I've done already:

- No, can't simply navigate down to the servers' database object and list of
users then right click and move - no such option on the context menu.

- Tried every combination of "Exchange Mailbox Store" in the search feature
of ADUC - wouldn't you think it would be
"CN=databasename,CN=storagegroupname" with the "starts with" search option?

Help! Any ADUC guru's out there?

David
