The "Enable offline use" checkbox and the "Offline Folder File Setting..."
box (under the Advanced tab) simply aren't there when viewed from within
Citrix/Terminal server environment. Conversely, towards the end of setting
up Outlook profile within Citrix/Terminal server environment, it never asks
"Do you travel with this computer?" As stated in Q242195, this is by
Microsoft's design. So, unless you know how to re-code NT/Win2k, Exchange
and Outlook, it's simply not possible.

As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, you could try dumping the
entire mailbox to an .PST and copying that over, that as that person also
said, that would suck - as the user would have to do this everytime he/she
wanted to get fully updated while away from the office.

Only way to do this remotely is either through RAS (which is potentially
very expensive per minute) or VPN. The road warriors can do an
up-to-the-last-minute synch before hitting the road, but their local OST
won't have copies of since-then e-mails that have come in. So, you're back
to needing the RAS or VPN solution.

You can use traditional dial-up with VPN client, or try VPN with wireless
solution. Verizon has wireless internet connection solution that uses CDMA
3G transport and is very fast. We're talking consistent 40 to 60 kbps, and
it'll burst up to 144 kbps (I've seen frequent 120's). People I've set it
up for wirelessly dial to Verizon's local POP to get on the internet (which
is initiated by VPN connection setting) launch their Outlook, and does
synch's while sitting in airports, hotels, companies they're visiting, and
just about everywhere else. It's entirely bearable for 3 reasons: (1)
Verizon's wireless connection is very fast; (2) Netscreen VPN is very fast;
and, (3) OST only synch's differences. If they don't need to synch Outlook,
they simply run ICA sessions, browse the internet, etc. Verizon had
promotions a few months back whereby unlimited usage for $99/mo. Motorola
has iM1100 wireless solution, but it'll do 10 to 24 kbps - totally unuable.
And, their entire network is behind an internet gateway (i.e. the
subscribers receive IP's in 10.x.x.x range) that filters a bunch of ports.
Sprint has CDMA 3G wireless solution, but I didn't get a chance to
evaluate/deploy it.

We have a lot of road warriors that want to write email, etc. while offline
(in meetings, on an airplane, etc.) and synchronize with the home office
when they're back in the hotel room. It's MUCH cheaper for them to use the
Internet connection in the hotel room rather than dial up from Finland back
to Texas. Not to mention MUCH faster.

I'm would like to get the TS/Outlook2K to create an ost on their local drive
that can be accessed by their local Outlook2K while offline.

Thanks,

They want to have a local OST, that is accessed from the server over a
TS session over the internet? That does not sound possible at all.

I access my outlook over a TS session. All of the email lives on the
email server. I have a 4 gig email box. And have no speed problems at
all. No PST no OST. I have no clue how or why you would try to stick an
OST in the mix.

I even TS my email from my local Desktop now. Why use my proc for Email
when I can use someone else's.

Let me know if you hear anything about this. One of my users wants to do
this too.

I would like to be able to create an ost on a remote laptop that uses
Citrix over the Internet. I would like to avoid having the user dialup
and sync (higher cost and lower bandwidth).

Why would you want an OST in a TS profile?

Does anyone know a "workaround" to Q242195?

Windows 2000 Terminal Services Does Not Support Outlook Offline Storage
