We considered doing this, but in the end decided to go with a dedicated proxy appliance box.
Reasons? 1. Less holes in the firewalls. SSL from the internet, and HTTP to our existing FE server. 2. The cost of the proxy appliance was comparable to server hardware + E2K enterprise. 3. Dedicated appliance box was deemed to be more secure than IIS/Win2K. 4. The proxy box could be used to "publish" some of our other internal apps to the Internet. 5. Proxy box can do the SSL encryption/decryption. Could theoretically do load balancing too. If you want to stick with Microsoft apps, you can put ISA server on a stand-alone win2k server (no domain) in the DMZ.
