I am running version 2.0. Server is 2000 SP4 and the backup device is an
LT02. Typically the catalog process, on backup exec using an LT01 is a
couple of minutes for a 100GB. I have been running Powercontrols for 15
hours and it has managed to catalog 122GB.

We were hoping this would reduce the amount of time to restore, not
increase.

It could be a configuration issue with the new LT02 we are using, but I have
no idea because Ontrack tell me it depends, and will not give any indication
whether the time lag might be with the device or the software.

I had to build a new device and use our brand new, not yet tested LT02, as
they insisted I install the windows drivers over the veritas drivers. Since
the backup server is production, I decided it better to try the new hardware
on a new server specifically for the task. Since I have invested all this
time to try and save time, I don't want to give up on this but I am hesitant
to install windows drivers over the veritas on the production server, what
do others think?

It depends on db size. It will take quite a while. Are you running
2.0?

Ontracks support is useless for powercontrols.

How long does it take the people using Ontrack to catalog the tapes?

Have you actually loaded the tape in the drive? It needs to be in the
drive instead of an open slot.

Subject: Powercontrols

I need to restore 5 mailboxes over three different periods of time. The
Exchange restore server was recently taken away for a different project,
so rather than recreating the restore environment I thought it a good
time to try Powercontrols. I have used it before and liked it.

Ok long introduction over.

I have installed Extract Wizard on Backup Exec Server.

I have installed Powercontrols on member server.

I have placed first tape in Slot 1.

Extract Wizard sees the drives but does not see the tape inside.

The problem, according to ontrack (powercontrols), is we need the
Windows drivers, rather than Veritas Drivers. They are telling me to
install the windows drivers, as the product does not use the veritas
drivers; I don't need to call Veritas to know this will be bad for our
production backups.

What do those who use Powercontrol in the same environment do?
