5.5 MTA Patch 2654.89

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q283/2/38.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=31920

Following Exchange Server Service Pack 4, several issues with the Message Transfer Agent were discovered that required some attention. A supplemental pack of fixes has been released, addressing a half-dozen different items that deal with how messages are moved about in an Exchange Enterprise. A couple of the issues are a bit of a concern, but give them a look for yourself to determine whether or not your particular network is affected.

Not yet..  I did review the MS notes on each hotfix to see if the problem it fixes were in relation to our email problem.   I may have overlooked something..any suggestions on any particular one?      Thx..   Angeli

I'd delete the IMC and then reinstall it, then reservice pack it.

Subject: bounced or rejected mail..

Hello All,
I am having a problem with Exchange 5.5 SP4 on NT 4.0 Server which rejects
and bounce email (all users) at random daily.  Many times some users receive
mail 2-3 days later and sometimes not at all.  The log files are clean as to
receiving an error message on why they are bounced.  Exchange log files only
tells me that the message did not go through.  I have checked all appliances
that correspond with exchange such as our backup software (Arcserve 2000)and
now, our firewall (Cisco PIX).  Last night I ran a series of tests from
home.  I tried to telnet to the mailserver from home last night on port 25
and I
was able to connect, but the server would not take any of my messages. I
think there is something wrong with the Internet mail connector on the
exchange box. The reason is because when I tried to telnet in from house, I
did connect, but I could not actually send a message.  I typed rcpt
to:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and the exchange box should have responded and
tell me whether I am a valid person on my network.  I received the error
message "No originator, need mail".  Do you have any ideas or any other
tests I should run that may help me correct this on Exchange?  I am
searching for answers on Exchange site, white papers etc.. but I have not
had any luck.   Any information you
give would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,    Angeli
