Just remind me to never order services from your company. I'd much
rather go with a company who know's when to spend $250 as opposed to
sitting on the crapper for hours writing on toilet paper.

ANYBODY who knows what they are doing, knows when to call for
assistance. ANYBODY who doesn't think that Microsoft PSS is worth a few
hundred dollars isn't worth their time.

It's completely idiotic to think that you know more than the thousands
of PSS reps who have access to case histories that aren't available
outside of the company and that you have access to more knowledgeable
people than those who wrote the code.

Last and not least, any company that boasts that they have 50+ MCSEs on
their payroll is not high on my list. Good consultants get their MCSE as
an aside with no training.

And then again a company who only has one MCSE on their IT staff.....

And then again a company who doesn't think that having a premier support
level is worth $120,000....

And most stupid of all, a company who doesn't think that outside
resources are needed when they are a consulting firm??? That's a pretty
stupid concept. If your clients believed in the same thing that you seem
to, then you wouldn't have any clients.

As far as Exchange is concerned, there is NO ONE that understands
EVERYTHING that there is to know about Exchange. I can prove that very
quickly and very easily. And there is NO WAY that a large majority of
Exchange can be figured out sitting in the bathroom writing on toilet
paper.

First of all, why did you change the header.

Secondly, we have been able to fix all the problems we've had. In a
pervious thread, I said how MS wanted $120,000 a year for the PSS
program. Do you have any idea how hard that is to sell to management
with the talent we have. We're not a stupid company, I just want to fix
everything within the IS group so WE (read that my group) don't look
stupid.

BWT, I'm the only MCSE in IS and Exchange isn't one of my
certifications.

That sure puts a whole lot of faith in a certification, and none in
Microsoft's internal Knowledge Base...

You don't think I don't know that!

I used to work for the Henry J. Krapper Company, and when we needed
outside help, they gave us a pencil and told us to go into the bathroom
and 'work it out.'

All kidding aside, the attitude at work is that we have about 50+ MCSE's
working for us in various areas of the company. If on of my staff or I
can't fix it, someone in our company should be able to.

Wow...someone has issues.....
Knowing where and when to get expert advice is just another tool (and a
very important one) in any knowledgable admin's toolbox.

In a high tech company, calling tech support is considered a sign of not
knowing your job.

Most of us use them on a per call basis.

A very pricey acronym. They wanted $120K a year from us to start. That's
a lot for a 200 person company.

I would highly advise you to call PSS. If anyone can fix this, they can.
If your execs email is as important as they think it is, they will be
willing to fork over the $245

Seriously, Call them

the backups had an unfortunete accident. Long story..
I just heard about Exmerge and am reading about it right now...

Will it make a difference that the old server is pointing the home
mailserver to the new one?

Heh sorry.. I've posted this a few times and never got a response.. Here
goes again. :)

"I was setting up a new Exchange server to replace our old one....
During this adventure we tried to move the mailboxes over with changing
the home server in each users advanced properties. It kept giving me a
MAPI error.. This was late night and we just deicided we would make
everyones new email boxes on the server by hand.

I've been logging on to the old server as each user to copy their emails
from the old server to a personal folder and then back to the new email
server.. Unfortunetly on the old server some peoples properities in
their Advanced tab has their home server set to the new one. I tried to
set it back but keep getting a MAPI error. I just want to log into the
old server and recover a handfull of peoples contacts/emails/calanders
ect.

Old server - NT 4.0 sp6 exchange 5.5 sp3
new server - nt 4.0 sp6 exchange 5.5 sp 4"

It's frustrating.. The old server has their home server set to the new
one, but it never moved over the actualy email/calanders. I'm hoping
they are not lost forever.. Some people would not like that. Thanx for
all the help.

Start at the beginning. What is happening and what caused this?

Is this possible? I'm desperate.. The higher ups want their email and
our old server has them pointing to the new server and I can't get into
the old server under some profiles....
