Actually the LDAP situation only applies to Exchange 5.5 Running on an
AD DC.

But yes you need to install the exchange Admin tools on any machine you
want to manage mailboxes from.

You need to install the Exchange Admin tools to what ever computer you
are going to manage from. If that is your DC, yes, you need to install
it on it.

The LDAP issue only applies to the situation where the Exchange is on a
DC.

Yes, I used the ADC from the Exch CD. I have 2-way setup. I set up a
brand new Win2k box that is the AD PDC, if you will. I did NOT install
the Exch Admin tools on that box, but rather the new Exch server.
Should I set up the Exch Admin tools on my AD Controller?

Thanks for the info. I'm also seeing some articles regarding LDAP and
port 389. Some say that the connector should run on something other
than 389. Did you change your LDAP port before doing the connector?

Thanks,

Pat,

1.) Are you using the ADC from the Exchange CD?

2.) Do you have one-way or two-way replication setup?
I believe you need to have two-way. I had two-way replication
setup during my migration and everything worked fine. I did the move
mailbox method.

3.) What machine are you using AD Users and Computers from? Do you have
the Exchange Admin tools on the machine you are using?

Subject: Exchange upgrade question

Hello all. I have a problem with Exchange 2k and AD (or, at least I
think I do!).

I have an Exchange 5.5 server in my domain, I built a new Exchange 2k
server, and am using the move mailbox method to move users to the new
Exch server. I first created an AD Connector to replicate the info from
Ex 5.5 to AD, and it seemed to work. Several hours later, I ran the
/ForestPrep utility before installing Ex2k. I have now fully installed
Exch2k, and patched it with the latest sp.

My problem is, when I right-click on a user in AD, and select the
"Exchange Tasks" option, the only available Exchange option is "Enable
Instant Messaging". There is no "Move Mailbox" option which, according
to everything I've read, there should be.

Anyone seen this? Anyone have any ideas what's going on? It's as if
the Exchange services didn't get installed on the new box. Help!
