This really has me stumped. I am finishing up a migration from one server
to another. Current situation: 2 back-end, win2k sp2, e2k sp1 servers.
One of the servers is a Compaq Proliant 3000 - this is the original
server. The other server is a Compaq CL380 two-node active/passive
cluster - this is the new server (dual P800, 512Mb RAM,etc). I have moved
all of my mailboxes over to the CL380 and am in the process of rehoming
public folders, etc. so I can remove the first server.

Everything has gone fairly smooth as far as bringing the new cluster up
and
moving mailboxes over. However, recently, like around the time the
mailboxes were moved over to the new server, the performance of our
Outlook
clients has gone down the tubes. It will sometimes take approx. 5 seconds
to switch between folders in the folder list, or to open up an email.
This
behavior is very random - sometimes you can change folders instantly,
sometimes it takes a while. I use Office XP and a window will pop up
telling me that information is being requested from the Exchange Server
with a progress bar, for example. Most other users use Outlook 2000 and
experience the same performance problems except they don't receive the xp
pop up window of course.

We have about 300 users (all local), operate in a switched environment
with
three network segments (192.168.3.x, 4.x, 7.x). It doesn't seem to matter
which segments you are on. Other network performance, such as browsing or
connecting to network drives is great - no problems! Performance monitor
shows that pages/sec is spiking out at over 100 quite frequently. Where
should I start with this?
