You aren’t doing something right.  Please specify EXACTLY how you are doing the backup.  Are you trying to back up the M Drive?  When you back up Exchange using NTBackup, you go down and select the “Microsoft Exchange Server” , then drill down and select the Information Store.  That’s the only way you want to back up Exchange using NTBackup.

I want to backup Exchange using the Windows 2000 backup utility but it reports access denied to all mailboxes except the Administrators. It will only backup the mailboxes that belong to the logged in account. I also need to backup the store but of course it reports "file open". How do I "close the store" so that I can back it up?  We will eventually be getting Veritas BackupExec, but until then I need to get the store and mailboxes backed up.
