I don't have any fish diseases! And this is only one of my consultancy roles. Actually, it's the only one that allows me to use listservers!

Actually, when I started here, there was no aircon! Opening the windows was not an option. :-) Neil PS - Beats working with fish diseases Kevin! Neil, of course is ideally situated to talk about "legacy crap" (he works next to a sewerage plant) ;-) Kevin -----Original Message----- From: Neil Hobson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 06 December 2001 13:28 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Request for help with ES 5.5, Directory Resolution Dunno about Outlook off the top of my head - there's probably a reg. hack somewhere. Guess you'll have to trawl through TechNet. Also, don't forget that your IMS is also set to send your display name to the Internet. You can turn that off in the IMS if you want to. Don't ask me where the setting is, as I haven't dealt with that Exchange 5.5 legacy crap for weeks! :-) Neil -----Original Message----- From: Shepard Steve C GS-12 9IS [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Posted At: 06 December 2001 11:20 Posted To: Sunbelt Exchange List Conversation: Request for help with ES 5.5, Directory Resolution Subject: RE: Request for help with ES 5.5, Directory Resolution Cool. Added the DWORD for ResolveP2, and restarted IMS. Thanks much. Ran a quick test; what do I need to change on the Outlook 2000 side? Appreciate all the great ideas here. Thankx! /steve -----Original Message----- From: Neil Hobson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, December 06, 2001 12:55 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Request for help with ES 5.5, Directory Resolution The Internet Mail Service will attempt to resolve the user names in your mail messages to names in the directory, and I think this is what you mean. To disable this, look in the registry under: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIMC\Parameters Create a new DWORD called "ResolveP2" and set the value to 0. Stop/restart the IMS (I think, but worth doing anyway), drink a beer and test. Oops, didn't mean to mention beer. :-) Cheers, Neil -----Original Message----- From: Shepard Steve C GS-12 9IS [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Posted At: 05 December 2001 16:12 Posted To: Sunbelt Exchange List Conversation: Request for help with ES 5.5, Directory Resolution Subject: Request for help with ES 5.5, Directory Resolution Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening: I'm the lucky Admin for a small Exchange Server 5.5 (SP 4), NT 5.0 (SP6A) private Intranet. Finally got a book on Exchange Server, but there's lots of cracks in my knowledge. Here's an easy question for you seasoned pros: ES has a "feature" called Directory Resolution that, when enabeled, converts SMTP addresses to those found in your directory (either Mailbox, or Custom Receipient). ie: "MS-Exchange Admin Issues" instead of "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Now, maybe some of you prefer "nicknames" instead of SMTP addresses, but it's not wanted on my setup. So, what's the way to turn this "feature" off at the ES, and how does one turn it off at Outlook 2000 client? Always enjoy hearing the banter from you guys; so, fire away! (I've already had my chill pill, so no prob.). Alas, I'm in a dry country; haven't had a beer in months. Just had to through that one in. thankx! /steve List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm ********************************************************************** This eMail and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual to whom it is addressed.
