Check FQDN in your SMTP VS has been = SMTP domain.
-Yes, it is
Test You telnet to port 25 to MX this Domains form E2k?
-No - Could not open connection to host on port 25: Connect failed
The Remote domains have Reverse Lookup?

Problem:
Certain outgoing mail sits in the queue of the SMTP virtual server until
it times out.
Errors in the event log report:
Event ID 4000
Message delivery to the remote domain 'domainname.com' failed for the
following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection
attempt.

Setup:
Exchange 2000 SP1
Windows 2000 Server SP2
AD integrated DDNS
No DNS errors or problems in event log
No other errors in the event log other than the one mentioned above No
problems with incoming mail or internal mail No AV software (yet)

Resources checked:
The usual exchange haunts of swinc and swink, and the MSKB where I
found:
Q280794 XIMS: Message Cannot Be Sent to Domains with MX Record Pointing
to CNAME Record
Q288718 XIMS: Message Cannot Be Sent to Domains with MX Record That
Points to IP Address

Both of which indicate a service pack fix - also the file versions I
have are newer the versions mentioned in these articles

Any help would be appreciated,
Tony
