"You are really better off running OWA on a different box than Exchange.
That's really what it was designed for."

I do run OWA on a different box but have yet to see your statement shown to
be true or documented. I would also contend that OWA is meant to run on the
same box and that running on another box is only needed in large
organizations or if you (the admin) want to put all of your IIS stuff on one
box.

About what exactly? You aren't very descriptive. There's obviously
something I said that you don't agree with. What part? If I am wrong, that
is fine, but I would most certainly like to know which part so that I can
learn as well.

Was there a memo about this or sp about this, I must have missed it. Could
you point me to it?

You are really better off running OWA on a different box than Exchange.
That's really what it was designed for. Second, if you uninstall the SMTP
Service from IIS, it will NOT shut down the Exchange services. They are
completely separate. But you do need to actually uninstall it, not just
shut it down. Re-install IIS, and choose to add/remove components, then
just remove the SMTP Service.

I've installed my first 5.5 on W2k. Can't seem to get the hang of what to do
next. OWA comes up with a permission error connecting to the /exchange site.
When you say shut down the smtp service, is that after or before the
install. If I shut it down now, will that be shutting down the exchanges
service?
