Hopefully a quick question. After migrating from Ex5.5 (sp3) to Ex2k (sp2) on a new
win2k (sp2) server (old box is gone, E2k native mode, etc), there is one nagging issue
I haven't found the answer for yet. When sending messages to any of our Distributions
Lists (UDGs, all of which were migrated), if a user account is disabled in AD, the
sender will receive the following NDR for each disabled user account they try to send
to.
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The message reached the recipient's e-mail system, but delivery was
refused. Attempt to resend the message. If it still fails, contact your system
administrator.

Is this by design in E2k? Q273363 says to run RUS and "update now", which I've done,
but still get these errors with the same users. Based on reading this article, I
believe this may actually be the normal response for a disabled user account with E2k.
Anyone know or have seen this?
If so, how are others handling this? Definitely is different from 5.5 where the mail
was still delivered anyway, but makes sense since 5.5 had a separate DS. We normally
disable and then rename and re-enable accounts for the next person taking the job and
would like to avoid having to remove them from DLs while the account is disabled,
which would prevent the NDRs. Possible?
Thanks for any input,
Bonnie Miller
