I just keep a watch on it. My safety net is the fact that we have mirrored drives, and if it comes to the end of the rope we can elect to break that mirror and gain another 9 gigs of space. Just a 9 gig drive for the whole company to run on! So, space is always an issue. When I run eseutil I actually have to redirect the temp file to another network drive to have space for the utility to run. If you don't have enough free space (I believe it requires 1 and 1/2 times the size of the database you need to compact) see Q182903 for command line structure to redirect the temp file.
