I've perused over some, before. And do what, instead? Just backup the whole drive that has the mailboxes on it? How would you restore just what you needed, and nothing else?

Nope. They said it was (probably) caused by Outlook remaining open during backup, or (perhaps) an antivirus scan. Neither of which is true, BTW.
