Uptime is the only thing. Someone once told me the sign of a good net engineer was that people would always ask what the hell does he or she do? That means uptime and no cursing or speaking of the net eng when things are down. I live by that here cause people don't have a clue what I do. But my systems are always up. :-)  sorry i can't get the tongue thing to work.
I'm in Colo and I can tell its quitting time here. This is third day in a row of serious rain..... Yahooo

This list rocks. later

My server has 70 gigs of white space. the tape has less value to me then the down time.. down time is not acceptable, period.

I ran it on two different servers that had been running for 3 years.  Each IS was around 32 GB.  It took about 3 hours and was 5 GB when it was finished.  The biggest improvement was that the backup didn't use 32GB of space on the tapes every night.

It should take you about 2-3 hours.
Our database is 27 GB in size and im going to defrag it this weekend.
I should be able to shrink it to about 25 GB

You don't need to run this utility. Exchange maintains itself - are you having problems that you believe will be resolved?

Greetings Knowledgeable Exchange Admins

Our Exch5.5/SP4 WNT4.0/SP6 information store is beefed up to 15.5GB.  I was planning to run the ESEUTIL to clean up the database.  I suspect there is a lot of space that can be reclaimed and by defragging the store things

*should* run more smoothly.  I have never done this so bravely I go forward, but not before asking for the sage advise of the list.

A couple of things I would like to know are:

1.      Approximately how long will it take?  The box is a Dell PE2400 dual
PIII-600 1GB-RAM.  I'm just looking for a ballpark so I can schedule the time.

2.      Are there any precautions, other than backups, I should take?

3.      Are there any known problems with the utility

Thanks in advance.

Dan Munley
