SATELLITE DSL WITH EXCHANGE SMTP?

We are in Ventura County, CA and just found out from the ISP that slots on the D-SLAM may not be available for our IDSL connection.  How well does satellite DSL weigh in with SMTP mail on an Exchange Server environment?
