Absolutely nothing on any logs.

I am thinking of removing (as this is not a production server) the E2K and reinstalling it after I have run the forestprep and domainprep once again just to make sure I have not screwed up anything.
However having gone thru Q252486 and done all of what it says. I still see the Server-SA mailbox in the M drive. Thus when I try to remove the E2K using the E2K setup on the CD, I get an error that there still exists a mailbox (which I suppose it is the one mentioned above). Is there something that I have not done? What else do I need to do. I really do not want to go thru the manual removal.

It's an odd problem.

Anything in the security event log to indicate failed or even attempted authentication?  (on the DC's)

the LSA handles this in 2000.  No 'log in locally' rights required.

What browser is being used?  What authentication method?

Authentication

A number of options are available for Outlook Web Access authentication. Choosing the appropriate mechanism is usually a matter of the capabilities of the client operating system and specific security policies.

The default authentication methods for Outlook Web Access in a single-server environment are Basic and Integrated Windows authentication. You set authentication on the HTTP virtual servers configured for Outlook Web Access.

Note Outlook Web Access does not have a button for logging off. To log off the session, the user must close the browser.

The following are the available options for authentication:

Method 1-Basic: Uses clear text to perform a simple challenge and response. Method 2-Integrated Windows: Leverages the native security attributes of the client. Method 3-Anonymous: Provides access to public folders that are intended for general access. Method 4-Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Although not an authentication method, SSL provides a secure communications channel that can be used in combination with any of the above methods.
