Yes, as do some older versions of Sendmail. Most of the time it just takes it a while to figure out where it is supposed to go.

As Jay and Ben mentioned, some versions of Exchange don't like dealing with CNAME and A records; they only want to play with MX. You may want to ask their DNS administrator to fix it.
