Im pretty sure you cant do this with SBS; the SBS has to be the FSMO role holder and, except for temporary situations, cannot be joined to another domain in a subsidiary role. And, parroting Michael, two-way trust with SBS??

You can create mailboxes with disabled user accounts on the abc.local server and set the associatedExternalAccount for the mailbox to an account in the xyz.local domain. This means that the passwords dont have to match, but youve still got two accounts involved. IIFP is the standard solution for doing this, Id say. Damifiknow whether it works with SBS though.
