Do u mean a domain which is a member of a forest and possibly a child of
the forest root domain. If so yes you can. You will need to run the
schema upgrade in the forest root domain and it will replicate to all
domains in the forest.

You will also need to run the domain prep function in that domain before
installing the 1st server.

If you mean a domain member server this is the recommended installation
method. Installing Exchange on a DC is not supported IIRC.
