No, you're not forcing them to work.

But an associate calls that person and says "Hey, I need you to go find
this", now they are working.

I guess that's just the world we live in. <sigh>

So, our employees have access to OWA, and they go on leave, we're not
putting a gun to their head telling them to check their email.

It is at their discretion if they want to or not.

I would think that there is now obligation.

Exactly.

People are always suing around here and I find myself getting notices from
our lawyers to hold all of a ex-employees email and data every month or two.
Its not like we run a horrible company that treats people like crap but it
just always seems that people are trying to sue for whatever they can.

What would they sue for?

"Making" them work during maternity leave?

To me that's always one of those grey areas. Legally they are on leave. If
they start working, there could be issues.

They could also access their mailbox remotely to manage it while on leave.

We change the password and let the Supervisor monitor their mail through OWA
or forward the mail depending upon the position.

We let the supervisor know the pros and cons and let them decide. Forward to
someone of the supervisors choice or disable the account and email until
they get back.

What do you do for employees when they take maternity leave?

Do you leave their email active and forward a copy to their
supervisor/manager?

I am thinking that if I allow email to flow to the employee's mailbox it
could quickly reach the mailbox limit.

Just looking for what others are doing.
