That counter is known to be imprecise. I wouldn't put any faith in it.

The 1221 daily event log entry is more relevant (when compared to the total
size of the physical store and the total size of mailboxes when added
together).

Actually, it looks like it's in perfmon, not the event logs - MSExchangeIS
Mailbox / Single Instance Ratio

Matt,

Do you know the event id or source? I can't seem to find this in my logs.

Thanks,

Larry

Ok, let's home my math is correct :)

Exchange adds an event to the event log with your SIS ratio after a nightly
maintenance run completes. You could get an average of an SIS ratio across
the stores of your server and then divide that by your report result.

So, if your SIS ratio averages out to 1.5 and your result is 215,740mb, the
result is 215,740 - 143,826mb = 71,913mb removed.

Now, that will only convert to whitespace and won't actually reduce your
store size until you do an offline defrag.

Ok, that makes sense. Is there a very good way then for me to find out what
my store size would be after implementing the policy?

Thanks,

Larry

We implemented an email archiving system so our next step will be to cut
down email in everyone's account as they will be able to access old email
from the archive. I created a recipient policy to report on how much email
would be removed if I set it to delete by age. The result that came back
was 215740.72MB but our store is only 204,803MB. How can it come up with a
number that is larger than our entire store?
