HI John
This behaviour is actually by design. IIRC correctly the actual mailbox will
not be created until it has been transacted against.
This would occur when:
1.) The user logs into the mailbox with Outlook for the first time.
2.) An e-mail is sent to the e-mail address tied to the mailbox.
3.) The mailbox is transacted against such as a mailbox move.
This can bite you in the ass when migrating to E2K7 and you want to remove the
E2k3 server. You can get an error that the store contains mailboxes. You will
need to find these "orphans" before the server can by decommissioned.

Subject: Exchange 2003 & mailboxes
On Exchange 2003 20 new mailboxes got created, these users show up in AD and
also show what server the mailboxes are on, and what store they are in.
Looking in ESM I can't see the new mailboxes in the stores that ADUC tools says
they are in.
One of the mailboxes was moved to another server and then the mailbox showed up.
This is not confined to on server, its across 3 servers.
The odd thing is, in ESM I can see what looks like a SID. The SID starts with
SMTP(Servername-{SID details}) Could this be the mailbox in question?
Can I convert this to a name?
Any ideas whats happened?
We have a maintenance schedule setup that runs 6am each day for 1 hour These
email accounts got created yesterday.
Thanks
John
