If you read the KB article, you'll see it says that, as part of the "COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS CONTENT DISCLAIMER". Some community solutions are good, some aren't. Some apply only in very very limited circumstances (which is what I would say about this one). I wouldn't recommend you follow this one. If you'd rather follow that advice than mine - go ahead. Don't be surprised when you break email for that user, disconnect them from their current mailbox, and ensure that no one can send them any replies to prior email they've sent. Which are some of the potential problems that the article you reference doesn't bother to mention. There are others. You are at SP1. There have been many many Exchange patches since 2007 SP1. Get current for service packs and update rollups - see if the problem still exists. Regards, Michael B. There is absolutely nothing wrong with creating mailboxes and users from within the Exchange Management Console (assuming proper permissions, of course). Looking around the web and I found this - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/556074 What transpires is that one of the Support lads here has been creating the username and mailbox from the Active Exchange Server. By creating the mailbox and AD username using the New Mailbox feature.. No reports yet of issues from the end users - there has only been a few 5-10 max. Can I expect any issues going forward? Can I assume that the User should be created in AD first and then link the new mailbox to the AD user? Can I make this change to the affected users without causing problems? (- these users will be based off site) 1. Check if the value is of the form: /o=OrganizationName/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=username and that it is not malformed. Most commonly, it maybe malformed to read /o=OrganizationName/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipientsusername with a missing '/cn=' after '/cn=Recipients'. 2.
