The data you moved became white space in the database. The database will never reduce in size unless you dismount it and run an offline defrag on it to reclaim the space that it was using. If you run the cmdlet below it will tell you how much available space is in the database after the moves you performed. I decided to classify some of the mailbox accounts differently and moved them to a different database. This all went fine, however the original database did not reduce in size immediately since we have a 30 day retention period. I decided to watch the database and see if it would reduce in size after the 30 days expired. The copies of the "moved" mailboxes were visible in the "Disconnected Mailbox" section and then did disappear after the 30 days retention period... BUT... the database itself never reduced in size???? What am I missing? IS there something else I need to do to reclaim the space? I thought all the maintenance is automatic. Thank you in advance for ideas and suggestions... still trying to learn how we will manage growth in the new Exchange 2010 environment.
