Department Description















The goal of Information Technology (IT) is to provide information resources and 
services in support of scientific research to The Rockefeller University 
community. Our department is responsible for the security, administration and 
maintenance of the campus network which provides high-speed (45Mb/sec) Internet 
access, as well as access to general-use and scientific resources such as 
e-mail, research databases, and scientific programs. In addition to providing 
technical support to the campus (including computer training, consulting and 
computer facilities management services), IT also partners with labs and 
departments to create custom solutions for special needs and applications.

Will perform system administration activities across Windows and Linux 
platforms as well as some Macintoshes by delivering IT infrastructure services 
and life science research support. Will have shared responsibility for 
lifecycle solutions (typically application deployment) from problem analysis 
with users to design/specification, build/integration, rollout/deployment, and 
post-production operation, and support and maintenance, emphasizing operating 
integrity security, service availability, and maintainability. Will provide 
support services with high uptime/availability and sensitivity to user impact 
and its mitigation, and ad hoc scripting as needed in support of above 
activities.







Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree, 3-5 years of experience, and educational emphasis in 
information technology or computer science required. Must have strong 
experience with Windows, Linux, and messaging systems. Experience with OS X, 
mechanisms of service delivery and availability (clustering, load balancing, 
virtualization, VMware), and ability to create and maintain scripting language 
based solutions using Powershell 2.0 and Perl highly desired. Experience with 
integration of solutions across hybrid operating environments and familiarity 
with storage systems (NAS/SAN/iSCSI) with applications and services necessary. 
Must have a high degree of comfort with and sensitivity for securing service 
delivery and related IT infrastructure including experience with software 
firewalls, public ley systems, and related tools. Encryption experience, 
familiarity with computing in support of life science related activities, 
understanding of requirements related to operating environments supporting 
database systems, and understanding of identity management issues, 
infrastructure, and operation (Active Directory, LDAP) helpful.
