This is embarrassing.  I completely missed that step after I created the LUN.  
I guess that's what comes from not following my own written procedure adn 
trying to wing it.

The volume can only be extended if windows recognizes unallocated space on the 
same disk. You mentioned you added a another LUN to the server, which would be 
seen as a new disk. You need to extend the existing LUN on your CX.

I need to increase the volume size where my Exchange db is located.  I added 
another LUN to the server and tried to use Diskpart to Extend the volume.  
Unfortunately, I get the error 'this volume can't be extended.'   I have used 
this same method to expand the volumes on many servers although this would be 
the first time for Exchange.

Is there something particular about Exchange that would prevent expanding the 
total size available? I've searched and the only thing I found was that it 
couldn't be (and this was a general response not directed at Exchange) extended 
if a page file is in use on that drive.  I verified that the only items on the 
particular drive are both Exchange stores (public and private).
