I am still trying to narrow this down... I have put a mailbox on an mbx server that I can stop the Scanmail and Exclaimers services at will. When I use this server as my SMTP server - I do not get the extra periods. Interestingly enough, however, the number of periods is variable. Sometimes it is ".", others ".." or ". ..". Very strange. But, if my subject line is just "test" then it never occurs. More strangeness.
I looked at transport rules - I have two - both are still in 2003 mode. Could this be a cause? I suppose I should do the upgrade command on these entries. But, they are only routing to the internet rules, not any other modification rules. I am pointing the SMTP connection from my client (again - windows/thunderbird) directly at a CAS or a MBX. So, no external SMTP gateway is involved. But, AV and the Exclaimer stuff is there.... Thoughts? ________________________________ From: Michael B. I have a new guy that the powers that be want to be able to connect to exchange directly using mac-mail. So, here I am trying to configure a workstation with thunderbird, imaps and smtps to test the concept out before I hop on his favorite macbook. Imap is working fine. It is smtp that is giving me fits. I am able to send emails, but when the get through the system to the mailbox, the subject line magically has a period added to the beginning. Org: "hello world" - now becomes ".hello world". I have tried it from an external smtp gateway (sendmail) and it still comes through that way. When I look at the logging - it hits the sendmail server correctly. This also happens when I connect it directly to my CAS server with the transport role (and thus SMTP). So, it is happening somewhere in EX2010. I do have exclaimer and trendmicro exchange av running on the servers. I have had users complain about this happening periodically with external emails from the internet. Any ideas? Has anybody else seen this before?
