No, it was Outlook 2010. I have no defined size limits. I thought the default
of 10MB would be enforced.

Emails over 1GB ? were they sent from outlook 2003 that does not care about
exchange sending limits, or do you have no size limits ?

Restarting the Transport will drop the memory, for a few minutes.
Queues: There is a queue called submission. I didn't know how to check/look at
the queues (I'm learning Exchange). Anyway, it had 3 messages, each over 1 GB.
I asked the user to delete the messages, and also I had to stop transport,
rename the Data folder, and start transport.

I think that will fix it. I'll post more if it doesn't.

Thanks Michael. As usual, you're a lifesaver, and kept me from going balder :).

Does restarting MsExchangeTransport do anything at all?

What do your queues look like?

Subject says it all.

Exchange 2010 server (only Exchange 2010 server I have), Windows 2008 R2, 16 GB
Ram. 400 Users, about 300 OWA, the rest using various versions of Outlook. Some
active sync devices (Blackberry, I-phone/I-pad/I-touch, android).

There is an Exchange 2003 server behind it, but it seems to be fine. Disk space
on both log files drive(c drive, 60 GB free) and store drive (d drive, 1 TB+
free) have lots of space. Edge transport will eat up all ram, then ease off for
a while, down to about ½, then back up again. No specific time amount of up or
down, seems quite random, but it will happen every few minutes.

Problems started last night or early this morning. I've disabled the
anti-virus, just in case. I did install SP1 (yes, SP1, I'm somewhat behind the
8 ball) this morning, but I don't think that is the issue, as I think problems
were manifesting themselves before I did it (yes, I know, I should have checked
closer, and fixed the problem first).

I don't see any back-pressure event ID's. Event Log basically just shows that
edge transport is using up all the memory, and various functions/queues are
being disabled. So mail is sporadic.

Googleing suggests that most of the time the issue is related to disk space,
which isn't my problem.

Things to check for? Ideas?

Thanks in advance
