Not sure if this is absolutely necessary, but it might prevent a problem or two.
Run the update from an admin (elevated rights) command prompt. Doing it via RDP is fine. If your boxes run Forefront for Exchange, you might find this blog post of mine useful, though it might not be needed for the latest RU updates: http://www.rebee.clara.net/blog/archives/2012/05/entry_199.html It won't hurt to do that anyhow. And it's probably time to start thinking about applying SP3 for Exchange 2010.
