When you pass the string

\None\x3Atwo\N

One expects that you are testing for "one:two". When it matches both "one" and
"two" separately that is an extremely unexpected result.

I'm passionate about this bug because I got burned hard on it and it needs
fixed. I know you've coded it a certain way but now it's time to revisit that
and do it right. THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!
