but i lately discovered that there're some strange message in the Maildir. 
They have zero size, no header, no content, absolutely nothing. 

e.g.,
-rw-------  1 10001 vhost     0 2005-06-14 15:25
1118733913.H670596P27534.localhost:2,S

i even have no idea where they came from.

courier-imap              3.0.8-4
