This is a little bit out of topic, but clamav is not worse than commercial antiviruses. I have seen AVG, McAfee and e-trust fail to detect viruses catched by clamav. The contrary is also true but nowadays, they all tend to have about the same rate of detection. Also, the antivirus you currently use has probably an option to open archives.
