While the issue/bug/whatever is being investigated, and I can't remember
your long description of why you're moving to Exim from postfix etc, but
how about, as an interim step:

1. additionally run postfix on the host, but bound only to some port on
localhost rather than a network port;

2. run exim normally, but configure a specific router and transport to
deliver mail bound for yahoo/etc domains to the local postfix instance;

3. therefore, you now let postfix handle the yahoo/etc deliveries, which
according to you works fine, and exim does the rest.

Then you get the best of both worlds, at least until your configuration
issue/whatever is identified. This would seem to be the
best-of-both-worlds interim solution, if moving to Exim is your desired
end-goal for whatever reasons.
