I thought I might have first used 0.42, but the earliest I found on a quick
search was 0.55 (and I seem to have 1.62 as the first post 1.x version, too) I
can't find an online copy of the home directory I would have stored an earlier
version in.

IIRC the version before 1.62 was 0.something
- Philip bumped the major number since there was a perception
that version 0.something was not of release quality :-)
I've got a patch file from 0.55 to 0.56 as well.
I expect Tony F might be able to lay his hands on other versions.
