Definitely not. I have tried 465, 587 and even 25 by accident
when I ran dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. 465 and 25 are not
even open on the smarthost.
Port 587 is alive and the server talks to you and that's
the only port number one needs to talk to that smarthost.

They've got webmail which they really want everybody to
use. They also say they support email clients like outlook and
Mac's mail program.
According to the over-seas call center folks, it's
supposed to work with outlook and Mac's. No telling what outlook
does but Macintoshes use a form of BSD unix so if I knew what
they do, that could probably work with exim.

I totally agree but they really want email to go away and
getting anybody to do anything, there, is like asking for free
cable service. New subscribers to cable TV and internet service with
this company are not even issued email addresses any longer.

Before I retired in 2015, I wished many times that I had
a job where I could just pick and choose what are problems and
what to ignore. I am being a bit sarcastic, here, but the fact
that you are reading this mail proves that getting their
smarthost to work is not really difficult but why they can't get
that certificate like responsible grownups defies logic. I can't
make them do anything but say "We don't support 3RD party email
clients."

There's the world as it is and the world as we wish it
was. Another common linguistic expression, here, goes, "It is what it is."
