does not change the fact that it has worked since implemented in, I
believe, version 4.94 and only fails in 4.99. Have also tried to add
/Maildir to the homedir in the dbm file, same result.

The error message does not match the setting you quoted. - directory
setting is .../Maildir but the error message is about .../username.
