I am looking for transport for a three-day classic golden ring excursion (Rostov,Suzdal, etc.) for a party of three (one Russian-speaker) in September and am undecided on whether to find a car with or without a driver. What do you think is better - book the driver with extra cost for food and lodging or try and find self-drive cars (I heard there are companies that even rent Zhigulis in Moscow, provided you have an international driving licence. I know the risks of Russian roads well and feel that I should trust myself at least just as much as some 'professional' voditel).
We do not want to spend much more than $400 on transport and an initial offer from Dom Patriarschi tours (with driver) was well above that. Thanks for your answers. Nikolaus Twickel
