Good tips, HR.

The following was sent to me privately as the person didn't wish to get abused
by anyone for whatever reason they had in mind:

"Airport taxis - when arriving back into Moscow via Sheremetyevo 2, go upstairs
on the escalator and exit where the taxis ARRIVE to drop people off. The last
three times, I have had lifts to to centre for 500 rubles in foreign cars. I
waited just a few minutes. These cars are going there anyway so it's 500 rubles
for nothing for them. Cheaper than the $100 below in dirty, smelly Volgas"

Regards,

Nick

  1. anyone in his right mind who would rely on any online guide to Moscow
other than (and god it KILLS me to say it, b/c seeing that man's "articles"
next to Bykov in GQ sucks the life out of me, but fair is fair) Mark Ames'
exile.ru, is not in his right mind. Afisha is somewhat trustworthy, in other
words, they will give positive coverage to a "deserving" good restaurant, using
google for a restaurant review is odd, using moscowtimes, which NEVER saw a
restaurant that they didn't like is just crazy. That's why Nick was right, and
anyway why would anyone trouble themselves to write a whole email, much less
defend one, telling folks to try "google"

2. Alex is absolutely right, I am pretty sure that the guy who is looking for 2
suits to work in isn't looking for $450 suits, Bolshevichka (i have never been,
but heard good things) is extremely well regarded and may be the best value for
money.

3. viet cafe. try the business lunch. dirt cheap, but good luck getting a spot.

4. secret: OK, since I am not in the area anymore: business lunch at yaponskii
gorodovoi (300 RFR and you get actual food and a tea, and a hot towel, and free
wi fi), on tverskaya (behind night flight sort of), at about 1/3 of their
regular prices.

5. ditto, pyramida for business lunch.

6. and finally pushkin for business lunch, E16 per person, but for them that's
dirt cheap. hint: you can order dishes (mix n match) from both male and female
menus. hint2: if you order tea BEFORE you order business lunch, they will bill
you for the tea, o/wise the same tea is free.

7. diana laundry, if you ask they will give you discounts 10% and up. does that
make $5 a shirt any less criminal?
