Nick, I agree - an agency ALWAYS charges the employer, NEVER the employee. I
work with agencies (especially hospitality) since many years.

Nick
I remember there was a thread on expat.ru recently about haircuts in Moscow
which you were involved in. If you've got a moment could you forward it?! (I
deleted it, but need a haircut and am now regretting it)
cheers

Personally I wouldn't pay anything to an agency that's going to make a lot of
money out of placing me.

This sounds suspicious.

I would check this out - ask for references (client references) before paying
ANYTHING.

Very strange.

Regards,

Nick

        Dear Veronica!

To find the right Agency, it would be usefull to know, what you are
expecting of an Agency, and what you are looking for.

I am running a small, but international acting Employment Agency here
in Switzerland. Our main goal is coaching yourng professionals from the
Hospitality Industry to a solid and international career. Candidates who apply
to us, are mainly looking to gain experience abroad or on board Cruise Ships.
We place from young Cooks, Waiters, Front Office Attendants for Family
Hotels, for Gourmet Places, Cruise Ships to General Managers for large Luxury
Hotels, worldwide.
Our Agency will celebrate 60 years of existence 2008. Some of our
Candidates are the Sons and Daughters of former Candidates, who have met each
other on board a Cruise Ship in the 60ties, 70ties 0r 80ties placed by our
Agency!
To get on our list you should be recommened by someone, we know
personally. As we exist such a long time, you might even find someone we know
personally near the Chinese Wall or anywhere in this world. On top of this,
we charge(legaly in Switzerland) a small application fee (CHF40.00/EUR 35.00)
ones a lifetime to get on our list, this to keep those out who are not
seriousely looking for a position, or apply to all the Agency they can reach.
(We have placed several leading Positions in Russian Hotels and Clubs.)
        Open positions at present:
Middle East: Executive Chef, F&B Manager, Spa Manager, Executive
Housekeeper, Guest Relation Manager and Kids Club Manager, all for a new
opening of a top house.
There is also an opening for a Finanzial Controller for a large
international Company.
But to find the right Agency out of the tousends who have startet the
last 20 years, you check for the positions they are offering.
With the best wishes from (rainy) Switzerland
        Viktor
