Hi All,

AFAIR, this all matters to import taxes and VAT. Diplomats should be excempt
of the taxes for the period of their job in the country. Foreign individuals
can bring in the car for a certain period of time tax free (AFAIR, 6
months), but the car should be registered with the local GIBDD office.
Before AFAIR these formalities for diplomats and accredited journalists were
solved via UPDK (Upravlenie Po delam Diplomaticheskogo Korpusa) of MID,
should be some kind of similar organisation today. For expats who are not
diplomats and accredited journalists GIBDD is the only way to go to get the
information. And AFAIR if you bring the car for longer than the formal
period, you have to pay quite a lot (depending on the age of the car, import
tax in percent plus VAT), no matter how many cars you bring in.

Subject: Expat List import of car

So, nobody knows anything? Coincidentally I am thinking about the same
thing, bringing my own private car over from Germany. Obviously I don't want
to spend too much and would be grateful for a hint or two.

Neysan, perhaps we get a cheaper price, if we bring 2 cars???? Any
information from your side very much appreciated.

Best regards

Angelika Winterstein
