Hi Jim,
You don't really need anything specific. There are several top-of-the-
line graphics cards. Sound cards, well, there's not THAT much
difference. Processor - buy the best you can afford: the fastest Intel
Core Duo you can find. The thing I would make sure you get is:
1. The biggest hard disk you can get your hands on. (No, bigger than
that!)
2. As much RAM as you can. Go for 2 or 4 GB.
3. The speediest DVD/CD burner. Or, hell, go for a Blu-Ray burner -
but that will set you back a bit. Still new. But, so amazing. 50 GB on
a disc.
4. The biggest flat screen monitor you can.
5. Make sure it has built-in networking, preferrably Gigabit speed.
6. Plenty of USB 2.0 ports. Even a FireWire (IEEE 1394) would also be
good.
7. For a desktop, don't worry about an internal wireless card. Get a
500 ruble USB Wireless device. Small and portable.
Good luck.

All,
I want to buy a new computer to use at home for both myself (for
work) and for the kids (for games). I will have it built for me but
need to make sure that it has all the necessary bits and pieces for
it to be able to handle the latest generation of computer games
(video card, processor, sound card etc) as well as run MS Office and
such programmes as AutoCad. Can anyone give me advice as to the
configuration and specification for such a computer?
Thanks
Jim
