This one is a problem... on one hand, someone doing an independent site such as http://www.rus-res-rev.ru/index_files/Page652.htm, should be encouraged.
On the other hand, it's just silly bad. Obscurantist restaurants - Darbar, Beloe Solntze Pustini, and just bad information. The statement on the front page that you can't get a reservation "anywhere" in Moscow on Friday or Saturday without a deposit of 1500 of something or other is simply nonsense. First of all, how do you make this deposit? Do you prepay it by email, or by a credit card or perhaps a runner with a sack of kruggerands? Anyway, good intentions clearly gone awry by lazy writing or just trying too hard to impress someone, too bad. There are deposits at clubs such as Famous to get a table, but that has nothing to do with restaurants. My short list of good places: Correa's, Academia, Little Tokyo, and yes... Soho Rooms, which is surprisingly reasonable and good food. Cantonini Antonori and Pushkin if you are willing to spare the cash. Tibet Restaurant, Pyramid and Mama's Pasta (Patriarshie) - best business lunch. Worst restaurants: Bon2 (500RFR for a bottle of mineral water that costs E1.50 in a store in Brussels, indifferent food), Kalina Bar (great view, ludicrous prices, not impressed). And sadly... finally... Coffeemania where prices have completely disconnected from reality. As to visas, I have repeatedly used Russian American Consulting (Group) on 34th street for travel and for visas. They are surly and uncooperative, but have consistently delivered everything that they have promised. So, yeah, that's a recommendation. _______________________________________________ Expat mailing list [email protected] http://www.lists.ru/mailman/listinfo/expat http://www.expat.ru/forum/
